No man or woman alive, magical or not, has ever escaped some form of injury, whether physical, mental, or emotional. To hurt is as human as to breathe.
While browsing good ol’ Tumblr today, I came across a post that, according to the title, was attempting to prove how Storm is not an Omega-level mutant. It was an obnoxiously long series of panels showing Ororo getting beat up, with some horribly mangled captions shoved in between. The thing is a disaster, and it pains me to think that some Charlie-level human wasted so much time on it.
What exactly constitutes an Omega-level mutant isn’t entirely clear. I mean, it’s pretty much just saying “Hey this one is, like, super powerful.” But what is clear is that you can’t disprove any given character is Omega-level by pointing to the times they lost and ignoring all the feats that, y'know, actually make them Omega. The truth is, every single character has taken Ls. All of them. Even the Omega-level mutants. Count the number of times Bobby Drake got knocked on his ass and we’ll be here til the Skrull Cows come home. If any character won every single encounter, there would be no tension in fight scenes. Ororo can’t win every single battle because if she did, we’d have Charlies on Tumblr bitching about how she’s overpowered and boring. Dude, not even SUPERMAN wins every battle, and just look at everyone who still thinks he is too powerful and, thus, lame. These characters are going to lose sometimes. It’s a narrative necessity.
So then what makes Storm an Omega-level mutant? Simply put, being really fucking powerful.
Ororo can control the weather. She has control over one of the most basic elements of the Earth itself. If that isn’t already enough proof that she’s Omega-level, then think about how much damage the weather has done in just the past month. Yeah. Ororo could do that. You know who couldn’t?
Fuckin Ice Man. But I don’t see you putting together a PowerPoint presentation on why Bobby Drake isn’t omega.
Man, the whole concept of Omega-level mutants doesn’t make sense, does it? Whatever. The point is, Ororo is really fucking strong and pulling a bunch of disconnected panels from across different time periods and different universes doesn’t prove otherwise.
